The House of the Dead Overkill is a really fun modern take on HOTD.
It's not as serious as the first games in the series and has a more dark and more humorous side that is not suitable for kids!
It's available on Steam included with The Typing of the Dead Overkill, and works out of the gate with the Sinden light gun. But it does require a few tweaks to get working!

Thankfully its a really easy fix!
Simply navigate to the games installation directory, The default is usually:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Typing of the Dead Overkill
Next find the HOTD_NG executable and rename it to "HOTD - safemode"
Thats it!
Now launch the game directly from the executable, If you try to play via the steam GUI it will update and overwrite the changes you have just made.

To install the patch just overwrite the files in the games main directory with the ones inside the zipped archive.
